Founded in 1982 as Image Management, the company went through several changes over the years including a name change to Intelligen in 1995. In 2010 it became Intelligen Limited, an international IT consultancy focused on the oil & gas, nuclear, and utility industries. 

Initially, the Intelligen of 1995 specialised in project management. Over time this expanded to include not only the PM aspect of the business, but also analysis, design, methodology, implementation, and roll-out of medium to large document management and information management systems. These ranged from a few 10's of users to 2,000+ users. 

In 2009, founder and owner John Baker bought a half share in IDMi magazine which he manages with the other owner, daughter Angela. Although semi-retired he works full time supporting IDMi and other business interests
